Štekar wines are the first certified organic wines in the Goriška Brda region. We decided to certify them in 2006. Both in the vineyard and in the cellar, we adhere to natural guidelines provided by the KON CERT institute from Maribor, which also oversees our work.
All our vineyards are grassed over, and we use the same protective measures for vine protection as our ancestors did before the rise of chemistry. We also employ more modern methods such as preparations from algae, microorganisms, carrot extract, and similar. We do not fertilize the soil; instead, we maintain its fertility through frequent mulching and grass mowing, which turns it into nitrogen and compost.
In the cellar For all wines, fermentation is spontaneous, meaning we do not use selected yeasts. We do not add sulfur unless necessary. Our wines are not filtered, hence fine sediments may appear in the bottle, which along with tannins protect the wine from oxidation.
MoreGrape juice is also produced from ecological grapes, namely merlot, ribolla and pinot grigio. It is unfiltered and has a 100% fruit content without added sugar and added preservatives. Its duration is only prolonged by a short pasteurization. It is said that consuming grape juice regularly strengthens the body's defense functions. The juice is packed in 0.25 L, 0.5 L and 1 L bottles.
Our vineyards have been cultivated in a natural and organic way since 2009. That is why we are certified by the KON-CERT Institute in Maribor. We use natural vine-spraying preparations made from algae, nettles and micro-organisms, and we also use sulfur and copper, which are allowed in such cultivation. Vineyards are generally facing south, so that the sun shines beautifully over them every day. It means a lot to us to be in harmony with nature, and this is why our slogan is LIVE WINE ŠTEKAR – NATURE’S AND HUMAN’S CREATION.
